    FAQs

Our main aim is to provide a safe, happy and caring place for the children. We provide a stimulating environment where the children can explore and learn through play. We help the children to develop their independence and their physical, intellectual, emotional and social skills as this is the most important time of a child's life for the development of these skills.

All activities are carefully geared to your child's stage of development and we keep progress reports on each child. Your child will be assessed on a regular basis, but don't worry, your child won't be aware of any assessment taking place. The portfolio will be forwarded to the primary school of your choice when your child begins reception year.

The Every Child Matters framework

For children from birth to three years, we follow the Every Child Matters framework which sets out four key entitlements for young children. This framework informs practice in settings where babies and toddlers are cared for and also across the age range with two to five year olds.

The Early Years Foundation Stage

The Foundation Stage is the first part of the National Curriculum focusing on children aged 3 to 5 and was introduced as a distinct phase of education in Sept 2000. The philosophy underpinning the Foundation Stage is that learning should be planned and structured with an emphasis on fun, relevant and motivating activities. The Early Learning Goals are a framework for a child's learning within the Pre-School environment and is set out in a document published by the Department of Education.

There are 7 broad areas of a child's learning and development:-

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication and language
  • Mathematics
  • Literacy
  • Understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Expressive arts and design
