Parent Rota

*  Be with the children as much as possible and assist where necessary

* Sit down with them, get down to their level

* Talk to the children and encourage them to talk to you. However, remember that children learn by asking questions, not answering them

* Help with putting on and taking off aprons. Put names on paintings and drawings etc

* Keep an eye on large play equipment

* Children love to be read to. If you would like to read a story at Storytime, we would be more than happy to let you

* Do sit at the dough or drawing table, but resist you own creative urges! Children often feel they have to copy and when they can’t they may give up

* Let the children use their own ideas. Encourage them! They need us to provide love, comfort, encouragement and praise!

* WASHING UP!  Paint pots, brushes, snack time plates, cups and jugs etc all need washing up towards the end of the session

* Coffee and tea are available so feel free to put the kettle on! However ensure that hot drinks are left in the kitchen (by the serving hatch) and not carried around or left where they may spill

* Ensure that all handbags and personal items are put well away—the children may mistake them for play props

* The pre-school assistants will always be available to help the rota parent

* Please Note: Rota parents, unless Police-checked, are not permitted to assist with taking children to the toilet

WE HOPE YOU WILL SOON FEEL AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF OUR PRE-SCHOOL “FAMILY”!

WHY A PARENT ROTA?

ROTA GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS

At the end of the academic year, the pre-schoolers leave our pre-school to move up to the Primary School situated next door to us and other primary schools in the area.

Therefore our numbers fall but over the summer months as parents register their children with us, our numbers rise again and continue to do so throughout the academic year as they become of pre-school age or move into the area.

In order to provide the same quality of care and keep staff costs as low as possible we rely on the parent rota to provide a much needed pair of hands so that the staff can spend all their time with the children and not waste it washing up!

Please remember it is your responsibility to find a replacement if you are unable to fulfil your rota duty.
