Learning is Fun

THE AIMS OF OUR PRE-SCHOOL

Kempsford Pre-school is OFSTED Registered and this means that we comply with the Government's Foundation Stage for Learning, and that the curriculum adheres to the Early Learning Goals.

LEARNING THROUGH PLAY

We strongly believe that our main aim is to provide a safe, happy and caring environment for the children. We want to create a stimulating environment where the children explore and learn through play.

The environment that we provide enables children to develop their independence and their physical, intellectual, emotional and social skills. This will be the most important time of the children's lives for the development of these skills. All activities are carefully geared to the child's stage of development.

The most important thing to remember is that this is a unique time in our children's lives. Never will they have the opportunity to experience new things every day and express themselves so freely again.

At Pre-School, it may at times appear unstructured, but actually a lot of learning is going on during playtime. For all Parents and Carers, when you come to collect your children, it is important to remember that "It's not what's in their hands that's important-it is what's in their heads". (Please see 'What did you do?' below)

Learning Is Fun

Progress reports are kept on each child when they reach grantable age at 3 years old. From then on the child will be assessed on a regular basis in such a way as to ensure that the child is not even aware of any assessment taking place. The portfolio will be forwarded to the Primary School of your choice when your child begins Reception year.

The Foundation Stage is the first part of the National Curriculum focusing on children aged 3 to the end of reception year and was introduced as a distinct phase of education in Sept 2000. The philosophy underpinning the Foundation Stage is that learning should be planned and structured with an emphasis on fun, relevant and motivating activities! The Early Learning Goals are a framework for a child's learning within the Pre-School environment. They also aid us at Pre-School to focus on what the children need to learn.

There are 6 broad areas:-

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication, language and literacy
  • Mathematical development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development
